In the ninth week into the module of drawing for illustration, we continued with our life drawing sessions and explored the development and employment of tone when creating form and environments within an observational composition.

1st warm up In the first warm up I used pencil which was barely visible so switched to thin charcoal to create more defined and tonal lines.
2nd warm up In the first three sketched, I tried employing techniques which we had experimented with weeks before such as continuous line, mark making and tone. Below these compositions, I created three different shapes and used these as view points of the life model. I also took into account the model's pose to pair with the shape such as folding in on themselves for the circle.

Moving figure For this piece we created a continuous 2 minute per figure sketch of the life model moving around the space one step at a time. |
3 tones In these four different pieces using three levels of tone, we increased the utilization of the layering of these tones to create the form and environment of the observation.
Tone experiment In this piece instead of creating layers of tone in pencil, we utilized different coloured card to create the environment's objects (stage/floor) and stronger use of line in charcoal.
Tone experiment 2nd variation In continuation of using coloured card, I also created this piece as a viewpoint with differing shading within the blocked off central viewpoint. |
