Drawing for illustration, Week 8 (21/11/2023)

In the eight week into the module of drawing for illustration, we continued our exploration of life drawing and incorporated developing screen-prints utilizing the drawing created during this session. During our life drawing session, we continued to explore quick sketches focusing on mark making and began enhancing our knowledge of proportion measuring utilizing sectioning the life model's figure.

1st warm up with pencil (2-5 minutes)

2nd warm up with pencil (3 minutes)

Stages of measured life sketches using sectioning techniques (3 minutes)

3 compositions focusing on bold lines using marker pens

Printing test 1

Printing test 2

During the screen-printing process, there were a variety of vital processes, tools and techniques that we explored throughout the session. For instance:
- To create the design onto the screen, we printed the design onto the screen using UV light to block out the strong lines of the piece
- To ensure the ink wouldn't print beyond the paper, we used masking tape to block out the desired dimensions of the paper onto the screen
- We used a 50/50 combination of acrylic paint and printing medium for this particular screen printing
- We also used pre-created designs to create different layers to our composition as well as our design
- Using the correct size squeegee at the 40 degree angle towards and away
- All screens and squeegees were washed thoroughly and left to dry in either the drying compartmented machine (screens) or with clean paper towels (squeegee)
